What is a “macro”?

According to Wikipedia, a macro is a picture with humorous text. Often the text is purposely mispelled or contains grammatical errors or common internet language, but this is the point of a macro. Many Doctor Who fans have made character macros, but at Tennantcast, we make David Tennant macros. Some are feature below:
